High-intensity stabilization for lasting recovery
First Step is a Level III.5 clinically managed high-intensity residential treatment program located at the Montezuma Complex in Andalusia. It serves adult males 18 and older who meet the criteria for substance dependence. The program provides extensive individual and group therapy, educational services, food, and shelter. Length of stay is based entirely on individual therapeutic needs — approximately 14–28 days. The program is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Priority Admission Categories
Before placement, a substance abuse assessment must be completed. Call our SA-OP office at 334-222-2523 (Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.) to schedule. First Step is an adult male only Level III.5 program. South Central also recognizes individuals with co-occurring disorders, military members and their families, adolescents, and American Indian or Alaska Native as priority populations.
- Priority 1: Individuals who have intravenous substance use disorders.
- Priority 2: Individuals who are HIV positive.
- Priority 3: All others with substance use disorders.
- Pregnant women and women with dependent children will be referred to other state-certified Level III.5 programs.
