Someone to call, someone to respond, somewhere to go.

Alabama's Crisis System of Care — available 24/7. SCAMHC provides a 24/7 helpline, mobile crisis teams who come to you, a Psychiatric Urgent Care clinic, emergency evaluations at secure locations, and coordinated inpatient services across four counties.

Crisis care built around you.

A crisis is an acute response to an event or situation — real or perceived — where regular functioning is disrupted, usual coping mechanisms have failed, and there is evidence of significant distress or functional impairment. SCAMHC's crisis continuum is designed to meet you wherever you are: at home, at work, or anywhere in the community — and connect you to the right level of care without unnecessary hospitalization or arrest.

What Happens When You Call

How crisis response works.

01

Call the Helpline

Call 1-877-530-0002 or 334-222-7794 at any hour. A staff member will conduct a brief triage/screening to assess your situation and determine the most appropriate response.

02

Mobile Team Dispatched (if appropriate)

If a mobile response is appropriate and the scene can be safely maintained, a two-person Mobile Crisis Team will be dispatched. If physical safety is an immediate concern, 911 is recommended first. MCT aims to arrive within one hour.

03

Connected to the Right Level of Care

Mobile Crisis Teams provide on-site stabilization, then connect individuals to the most appropriate next step — whether that's the Psychiatric Urgent Care Clinic, outpatient services, or inpatient care — via a warm hand-off with arranged transportation.
