The Norman-McLendon Facility is a secure (locked) 16-bed male residential facility in Greenville serving two populations: individuals with serious mental illness found incompetent to stand trial, and individuals with SMI under conditional release orders following a Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity (NGRI) adjudication. The facility operates 24/7 and accepts admissions from anywhere in Alabama.

What the Norman-McLendon Facility offers
Competency Restoration
Structured competency education program to restore individuals to competency status as ordered by the courts.
Psychiatric Treatment
Psychiatric assessments and treatment by a psychiatrist who makes rounds twice weekly and is on-call 7 days per week.
On-Site Day Program
An embedded Rehabilitative Day Program (RDP) providing daily structured therapeutic activities.
Basic Living Skills
Training in money management, personal hygiene, meal preparation, and community integration.
Discharge Planning
Intensive case management to facilitate transition to community placement when allowed by the courts.
Family Support
Family education and support services throughout the treatment process.
Accepting adult males from anywhere in Alabama
Admission requires: age 18 or older, court involvement as described, a principal psychiatric diagnosis (SMI), willingness to participate in structured activities, medical stability, and the need for 24-hour supervision.
