Intensive community-based care for adults with complex needs
The Specialized Behavioral Home (Green House) is a 10-bed congregate living facility in Greenville operated 24 hours a day, 7 days per week by qualified staff. It serves adults 18 and older with serious persistent mental illness who have reached the maximum benefit of hospitalization or crisis residential care but are unable to live independently. Consumers learn to manage their mental illness and behavior, with an expected stay of 12–36 months. Residence is voluntary. Staff do not serve as legal guardians.

Basic Living Skills
Comprehensive training in money management, meal preparation, laundering, shopping, transportation, personal hygiene, and home management.
Medication Management
Assistance with medication management and coordination with treating physicians.
Family Support & Education
Family education about psychiatric illness and guidance for loved ones throughout the recovery process.
Social & Vocational Services
Social skills development, vocational services, recreation, community orientation, and assistance with benefit applications.
Who Qualifies for the Specialized Behavioral Home
The Green House serves adults 18 and older with serious persistent mental illness and significant behavioral challenges who have reached the maximum benefit of hospitalization or crisis residential care but cannot yet live independently. Priority is given first to those currently in a State Psychiatric Hospital, then to community residents.
- Impaired contact with reality or social withdrawal
- Moderate to severe disabling depression, anxiety, or somatic symptoms
- Poor medication compliance, socialization, interpersonal, or problem-solving skills
- Does NOT qualify: Primary diagnosis of Substance Use Disorder, ASD, Developmental/Intellectual Disability, TBI, or Organic Mental Disorder
- Does NOT qualify: Medical problems requiring hospitalization or 24-hour nursing care
