Service Overview

Child & adolescent outpatient care — the least restrictive setting

The SCAMHC Child and Adolescent Program is an ambulatory treatment program. The target population consists of individuals who are 20 years of age or younger who reside in Butler, Coffee, Covington and Crenshaw Counties. Individuals admitted to the program should meet the criteria for Seriously Emotionally Disturbed as defined by the Alabama Department of Mental Health or be diagnosed with a mental illness/disorder as defined by the latest version of the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual). Child and Adolescent outpatient services provide a level of care with the least amount of restriction. The therapy can be individual or group, structured or not. Services will be provided by a qualified mental health professional in any appropriate setting convenient for the consumer and staff that affords an adequate therapeutic environment that protects the consumer’s rights to privacy and confidentiality, and with appropriate consent from the consumer, family and treatment setting. When treating children, there may be more of an emphasis on having an impact on the family system as well as the individual consumer. Outpatient services include a variety of treatment modalities and techniques as noted in section 580-2-20-.10 of the DMH Mental Illness Community Program Administrative Code.

  • Medication monitoring and psychiatric evaluation (ages 5+)
